April 2011

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.  1 Chronicles 29:11

Pastor's Message

This quarter I wanted to share some writing with you that I have found to be rich and powerful and meaningful ………….See what you think:

God answers prayer; sometimes when hearts are weak,

He gives the very gifts His children seek,

But often faith must learn a deeper rest,

And trust God’s silence when He cannot speak;

For He whose name is love, will send the best;

Stars may burn out, nor mountain walls endure,

But God is true, His promises are sure

To those who seek.

UM Women Meet Second Thursday Evenings

And then there’s this:

                                                What’s Really Important

A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100-yard dash.  At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with the relish to run the race to the finish and win.

All, that is, except one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times, and began to cry.  The other eight heard the boy cry.  They slowed down and paused.  Then they all turned around and went back--------every one of them!

One girl with Down’s syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, “This will make it better.”  Then all nine linked arms and walked together to the finish line.

Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for 10 minutes.

                        (author unknown, found in “A Third Serving of Chicken Soup for the Soul”)

And then there’s this:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should  not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.     (John 3:16-17)

Happy Easter!

Remember, God loves you and so do I.                         Pastor Jim

     Enclosed is the updated list of products for Campbell’s Labels for Education program; please note new products such as BIC, Pop Secret, and Wolfgang Puck.  Every quarter, the labels are sent to the Red Bird Mission or to Henderson Settlement in Kentucky’s Red Bird Conference.  In January, the Henderson Settlement gained possession of a new minivan, taking about four years to collect the necessary 1,600,000 points; the van will be used to transport youth and seniors to the various ministries.  Henderson Settlement and the Red Bird Mission send a THANK YOU! to everyone for supporting the programs and the people in Appalachia.  The Red Bird Conference also collects Box Tops.  There is a box for the labels and the Box Tops in the rear of the church.  Please contact Shaw Moffett if you want more information or have any questions.

     During the first quarter, the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund was able to give financial assistance to a member of the Fauquier Shelter to get a vehicle tagged and insured in order to drive to work.

     There were no calls for food assistance.  E-scrip donations to the Food Pantry were not available.
